Donation round-up from The Tetbury Pet Shop & Grooming. Our window never looked better!
We say it a lot, but this time we really mean it: Tetbury is one of the most dog-loving places you'll ever visit.
Throughout May and June, our dog-shop on Long Street slowly filled up with bags of toys, blankets, bags of food, spare bowls and all sorts of other bits and pieces. Every single one of them donated by our customers for local rescue dogs. On top of that, three of the brands we're proud to stock — Green & Wilds, Beco and Pet Wiz — got involved too, donating toys and treats to go straight to dogs in rescue.
So this one's a proper thank you post.
What you donated
Toys with a bit of life left in them. Blankets and towels pulled out of the airing cupboard. Bowls, leads, half-used bags of food, coats that no longer fit — all of it dropped off in-store, no questions asked, just because people wanted to help.
It's easy to underestimate how much a pile of "spare" household items can mean to a rescue shelter, so here's why it matters so much.
Why donating old blankets and towels really does make a difference
It might not feel like much to hand over a worn blanket or a towel you were about to throw out, but for a rescue shelter, these are some of the most useful donations there are.
- Warmth and comfort — kennels and shelters can be cold, especially overnight, and a blanket makes a huge difference to a dog's comfort.
- A sense of security — a soft blanket to curl up on can help an anxious or newly-arrived dog feel calmer and safer.
- Practical, everyday use — towels are used constantly, for drying muddy paws, cleaning up after grooms and baths, and general day-to-day care.
- It stretches shelter budgets further — every blanket or towel that's donated is money the shelter doesn't have to spend, which can instead go towards vet bills, food or long-term care.
- Nothing goes to waste — items that might otherwise sit in a cupboard or head to landfill get a genuinely useful second life.
So if you've got old towels, blankets or dressing gowns you were going to throw away, please don't — bring them in and we'll make sure they get to dogs who need them.
Proud of our dog-loving town
Tetbury has always been a brilliant place to bring a dog — dog-friendly cafes, bars and restaurants, beautiful walks, and a community that genuinely loves animals. But what we've seen has gone beyond that. Watching customers turn up with bags of blankets, toys and food for dogs they'll probably never meet has been genuinely moving, and it's a reminder of just how special this town and the wider Cotswolds are for dog lovers.
To everyone who donated, dropped something off, or simply shared the word — thank you. You've made a real difference to dogs who needed a little extra care.

A brilliant donation for rescue dogs who deserve a treat that's actually good for them.

Pet Wiz is a small, family-feel brand who describe themselves as proud pet owners and animal lovers who believe every four-legged friend deserves the best, with a curated range spanning grooming, bedding, feeding and healthcare essentials. Their donation of toys and treats was a lovely, practical boost for the shelter dogs in our care.
Beco

Beco has been on a mission since 2009 to make dog products that are better for the planet, from bowls made of recycled bamboo to toys made from recycled plastic bottles. Their everything they do is aimed at creating a healthier, happier planet for pets and owners alike, and their donated toys and treats have gone down a treat with our rescue visitors.
